Antarctic and arctic reference materials available

This article reports that in 1980, the National Science Foundation received the remaining inventory of polar reference materials published by the American Geographical Society between 1964 and 1975, including the Antarctic Map Folio Series (19 folios covering topics such as tropospheric climatology, glaciers, marine life, birds, and mammals), 1:5,000,000-scale topographic maps of the Arctic and Antarctic, and the book Americans in Antarctica, 1775–1948, all available at reduced prices. Additionally, the Canadian Hydrographic Service published in 1980 a general bathymetric chart of the oceans surrounding Antarctica (scale 1:6,000,000, south of 60°S), compiled from multinational data under the scientific coordination of G. L. Johnson and Jean-Rene Vanney, priced at Can$5. Furthermore, Problems of the Arctic and the Antarctic, Volume 48 (1976), edited by A. F. Treshnikov, has been translated into English, containing 21 papers on hydrometeorological regimes, ionospheric radio wave absorption, and arctic magnetic activity during magnetospheric storms. All publications are obtainable through designated distributors.
