Reviews: Atlas of the Republic of Austria

Niels Nielsen reviews parts I–II of the fourth delivery of Atlas der Republik Österreich (1967–69), comprising 20 map sheets. He emphasizes their thematic diversity and the independence of each sheet in subject, treatment, and presentation. The analyses are often highly detailed and use numerous symbols: the hydrogeological map contains at least 60. Nielsen finds this map demanding to read but rich in information on freshwater occurrence, quantities, and use when studied closely. He offers a similar assessment of maps covering population, commuting, tourism, agricultural yields, and mechanization, praising the work’s wealth of content and careful treatment.
