Antarctic Map Folio Series

Bushnell reports that Folio 19, History of Antarctic Exploration and Scientific Investigation, was published in October 1975 as the final installment of the Antarctic Map Folio Series. Its fifteen plates cover early concepts of Antarctica, routes and highlights of exploration from 1772 to 1954, and scientific stations, traverses, and other accomplishments from 1954 to 1975. According to the account, Henry M. Dater contributed the opening discussion of motivations for Antarctic exploration, the American Geographical Society staff prepared the remainder, and the folio includes a bibliography of 280 sources.
