Antarctic Map Folio Series

This article introduces the Antarctic Map Folio Series, initiated by the American Geographical Society in 1962. Of the 18 planned folios, 8 had been published or were scheduled for publication by the end of 1967. The paper highlights five folios released between 1966 and 1967: Folio 4 covers tropospheric and lower stratospheric climatology, including seasonal thermal regimes, atmospheric circulation, and tropopause heights; Folio 5 focuses on terrestrial life, mapping plant and arthropod distributions and discussing environmental characteristics; Folio 6 analyzes Antarctic water structure, presenting core layers, dynamic topography, and the Polar Front Zone; Folio 7 summarizes glacier data; and Folio 8 addresses surface environment climatology, including temperature, wind, cloudiness, and cyclone tracks. Through maps, graphs, and texts, these folios systematically document Antarctic climate, biology, hydrology, and glaciology, serving as vital references for polar research.
