Times Atlas of the World: Vol. I

This review examines Volume I of The Times Atlas of the World (1958), edited by John Bartholomew, containing seventeen maps of the Far East, Antarctica, and Australasia and seven thematic world maps. The reviewer praises its overall cartographic quality, layer colouring, and some lettering, but criticizes hill shading and projection terminology. Particular attention is given to the incompatibility of conformality and equal area and the erroneous expression “knots per hour.”
