The Times Atlas of the World

R. A. Gardiner reviews the 1967 single-volume Comprehensive Edition of The Times Atlas of the World, which offers most Mid-Century Edition maps in updated form at a lower price, alongside new maps, a geographical glossary, and expanded introductory material. He criticizes plate renumbering for preventing direct cross-reference with the earlier index-gazetteer, questions the introductory material’s sketchy coverage, and notes inconsistent colour conventions and lettering legibility. He also praises several new plates. Gardiner judges the cartography generally excellent and the volume good value, expecting it to retain its position as Britain’s principal reference atlas.
