1972This paper describes the organization, sources, contents, and production of the Philippine National Economic Atlas at 1:4,000,000. Funded in 1971, the project began under the Board of Technical Surveys and Maps and was completed by the Bureau of Coast and Geodetic Survey following administrative reorganization in 1973. It collates and evaluates dispersed statistical and cartographic information from government and private agencies to support economic development planning and related public and private activities. Its 37 map sheets, including 23 in multicolour, cover natural resources, population, agriculture, industry, infrastructure, and mapping coverage. The base map was reduced from United States Air Force jet navigational charts at 1:2,000,000 using the Lambert conformal conic projection. The paper outlines photographic scaling, scribing, symbol preparation, colour separation, proof correction, and offset printing, including the use of locally developed production materials.
