Atlante Internazionale del Touring Club Italiano · Version 1

1927–1968

This article reviews the revision of the eighth edition (1968) of the *Grande Atlante Internazionale* by the Touring Club Italiano. Following the 1964 London Congress, efforts focused on updating the atlas, with the basic topographical and morphological design largely unchanged, though partially modified to incorporate new reservoirs, new towns (e.g., Brasilia), and new railway lines. However, improved knowledge of the sea bottom and Antarctica led to significant modifications in oceanic and polar maps. Toponymic revisions were central, involving the adoption of official names, cross-references for historical names in the index, and four transcription rules for countries not using the Latin alphabet, thereby preserving the atlas's international and traditional character.
