Summary

The appearance of the fourth installment of the "Atlas of the Republic of Austria," of which two-thirds of all planned plates are now available, as well as the cartographers' conference scheduled for 1970 in Vienna, prompt the author to reflect on the Austrian atlas in light of recent perspectives on national and complex regional atlases, addressing issues of organization, overall design, and finally individual layout.
