1960–1990The review discusses the Mineral Industry Map and Geological Map, two of the final five maps completing the 30-map Atlas of Australian Resources. The Mineral Industry Map records significant mineral production and processing through the end of 1956, using symbols for locations, percentages for each centre’s share of national production, and flow lines for domestic, coastal and overseas transport. The Geological Map, compiled in 1958 at 94.7 miles to the inch, is praised for its printing and bright colours. Its smaller scale than David’s Geological Map of the Commonwealth limits subdivision of geological periods, while the reviewer welcomes the reduction of blank areas in the remote north. Each map has a separate commentary booklet, which the reviewer advises reading carefully before interpreting the map.
