This report describes China’s publication of economic atlases in response to United Nations regional cartographic conference resolutions. The Ministry of Interior initiated the project in 1964 and intensified work after 1967, assembling mapping materials despite difficulties in collecting data. Two multicolour economic atlases, each comprising four sheets on a Lambert conformal projection, cover terrain, communications, administrative divisions, agriculture, minerals, water conservation, and electric power; one is at 1:6,500,000. A two-sheet geological map of China at 1:4,000,000 was also published to revise existing geological information and supplement coverage of north-western and south-western China. Sets of the economic atlases were sent to the relevant committee in Thailand and the United Nations Information Centre for reference.
