Publication of the monumental atlas in the 1980s

The editors present the National Agricultural Atlas of the People’s Republic of China as the first volume completed in a five-part national atlas project revived in 1981 after an earlier interruption. Edited by geographer Zhou Lisan and containing 300 maps of various sizes, it is said to provide a systematic account of China’s agricultural conditions, characteristics, spatial patterns, achievements, and scientific results, while serving planning, resource management, research, education, international exchange, and public understanding of the country’s agricultural circumstances.
