Efforts have been made for years to produce a national atlas of Suriname. However, a lack of human and financial resources has delayed implementation of the project until now. Following a feasibility study conducted in cooperation with C. Koeman of Utrecht University (the Netherlands), the Surinamese Cartographic Committee submitted a funding request to the Ministry of Education. The atlas will contain 35 maps in black and white and in colour, covering 11 main themes, at scales ranging from 1:5,000,000 to 1:500,000.
