2016–2017A. Volodchenko presents an atlas-semiotic analysis of Volume 1 of the Lithuanian National Atlas, which the article dates to 2014 after seven years of work. The 142-page volume covers Lithuania in the world and Europe, and nature and landscapes. He divides its structure into front matter (8%), a thematic core (82%) and an appendix (10%), and counts 235 maps by subject, scale and page arrangement. Nature and landscapes accounts for 205 maps; small-scale thematic maps predominate, and all maps use single-page layouts. To assess the volume’s semiotic potential, he records cartographic, textual and illustrative information page by page and reports proportions of 68.7%, 26.0% and 5.3%, respectively.
