Kronika: Geograficzno-statystyczny atlas Polski

Summary

This article critically reviews several geographic-statistical works by Professor Eugeniusz Romer, including the second edition of the Geographic-Statistical Atlas of Poland and the census of the Eastern Territories. It argues that despite the immense effort involved, the works contain serious flaws in key maps depicting nationalities, land ownership, and transportation. The author contends that Romer's reliance on politically manipulated census data from the partitioning powers led to a significant underestimation of the Polish population in the eastern borderlands and Eastern Galicia. Furthermore, the article highlights numerous errors in toponymy, which were uncritically reproduced by the Polish Central Statistical Office. The author concludes that these errors undermine the scientific value of the works and risk misleading international opinion to the detriment of Poland's national interests.
