1916–1997This report describes the conference of 2–3 November 1945 on preparing Atlas Polski to support economic planning amid reconstruction and territorial change. It reviews earlier Polish and foreign atlases and traces the project to the Warsaw Regional Planning Bureau during the German occupation. Piątkowski revived the proposal at the Cartographic Bureau, where preparations began in June 1945 with a proposed scale of 1:2,000,000 and a hydrographic base extending beyond Poland's current borders. A survey of ministries and state institutions found interest but insufficient suitable materials. At the conference, Różycki compared Albers and Lambert projections, favoring Albers for its simpler graticule and suitability to the area, and presented two sheet-format options. Participants adopted the basic scale, called for cooperation from specialists and institutions, and entrusted publication to the Cartographic Bureau of the Central Office for Land Surveying. The proposed contents covered historical maps, war damage, geodetic networks and the physical environment, followed by demographic, agricultural and forestry, industrial, transport, energy, commercial and financial maps. The bureau would continue preparatory work pending appointment of an editor-in-chief; the report records plans, not completed fascicles.
