New publication: Atlas of the Republic of China

Summary

The notice reviews the Taiwan volume of the Atlas of the Republic of China, edited by Chang Chi-yun and published by the Institute for National Defense Research (first edition 1959; second edition 1963; 43 maps). It describes detailed place names in Chinese characters and romanization, maps of geology, climate, soils, forest types, land use and transport, and selected former place names for comparison. The reviewer welcomes its relief of the inconvenience caused by changed place names and pronunciations and the lack of detailed maps.
