Introduction to the Foreign Atlas: "Atlas of the Republic of Austria"

This article introduces two foreign comprehensive regional atlases: the Atlas of the Republic of Austria and the Atlas of Switzerland. The former, edited by the Austrian Committee and published from 1960 to 1980, features a 72.4×46.2 cm format with loose-leaf binding, primarily using 1:1,000,000 national maps supplemented by 1:200,000 and 1:300,000 configurations to systematically present Austria's physical geography, socio-economic conditions, and regional divisions, with transparent overlays for administrative boundaries. The latter, edited by Eduard Imhof and published by the Swiss Federal Office of Topography since 1965, comprises 86 plates at scales of 1:500,000 or 1:800,000, covering natural and socio-economic themes, employing methods such as contour lines with hill shading, dot value, and choropleth techniques, with legends and descriptions in French and Italian.
