Der neue Atlas über Schweden

This article reviews the Swedish National Atlas (Atlas över Sverige), initiated in 1953. Previously, Finland was the only Nordic country with a comprehensive national atlas, while Sweden, despite its leading role in geographical research, lacked such a foundational work. Published by the Swedish Society for Anthropology and Geography, the atlas is planned to include 75 map sheets covering diverse themes such as geology, climate, population, agriculture, industry, and culture. Notable features include bilingual texts, high-quality cartography, and innovative thematic maps (e.g., glacial evolution, soil types, agricultural changes). The article argues that the atlas not only fills a significant gap in Swedish geographical literature but also sets new standards in methodology and content depth for regional geographical studies, holding substantial academic value.
