In this 1990 survey, M. Côte describes the Atlas national de Tunisie as a university atlas produced through collaboration among university geographers and issued by the Ministry of National Education and CERES. It was being published sheet by sheet at 1:1,000,000, with accompanying explanatory notes; sheets already published covered relief, densities, livestock and transport.

M. Côte reviews atlases covering the five Maghreb countries for teaching, spatial planning, and university geography. He considers Tunisia the best covered, noting its planning atlases and national atlas issued sheet by sheet. Algeria has completed relatively few of its numerous atlas projects, with economic, school, and provincial atlases available. Morocco’s long-running Atlas du Maroc is being supplemented by specialized atlases of Casablanca and the Fez medina. Mauritania has a general-audience atlas and a statistical atlas of its oases; Libya has an Arabic-language national atlas produced by a Swedish team. The review concludes with regional and African atlases offering coverage of all five countries, and records publication details and the status of ongoing projects.
