Atlas of Finland

Summary

This paper presents two geographical studies. The first concerns the fourth edition of the Atlas of Finland, published in 1960 and compiled by the Department of Geography at the University of Helsinki. By effectively utilizing colors and reducing map sizes, the atlas increased its number of maps while controlling costs, with about two-thirds of the content being new. The second study addresses the acute problems of waterlogging and salinity in the irrigated areas of West Pakistan, which have caused significant land degradation. It analyzes the causes and introduces reclamation measures involving tube-wells for drainage and salt flushing, which are expected to substantially boost agricultural production in the region.
