Introduction to Foreign Atlases: The Atlas of Canada

Summary

This article reviews two national atlases: The National Atlas of Canada and The National Atlas of the United States of America. The Canadian atlas, published by the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources in 1974, contains 254 pages of maps with varied scales, covering physical, population, and economic themes, supplemented by satellite imagery and statistical data; provincial atlases also aim to promote rational resource development. The U.S. atlas, compiled by the Geological Survey with 84 cooperating agencies in 1970, was edited by Arch C. Gerlach. Both atlases systematically depict national physical and socioeconomic conditions with high cartographic quality, serving as valuable references.
