Generalization in maps of the Atlas of German Democratic Republic

Summary

This paper aims to present the methods of generalization applied in the maps of the Atlas of German Democratic Republic. These methods are based on a quantitative analysis of individual phenomena of the landscapes represented by the map. The article first elaborates the theoretical foundation of cartographic generalization, which determines the degree of simplification through quantitative research on geographic phenomena.
