Summary

This paper reviews the third volume of the Atlas of the Republic of Austria, edited by Hans Bobek and published in 1961 by the Austrian Academy of Sciences. The volume contains 85 main maps at a scale of 1:1,000,000, issued as loose sheets with a transparent overlay for reference. The cartography is praised as excellent. Thematic coverage includes population, settlements, relief, karst types, snow, public health, leather and clothing industries, cereal and root vegetable types, insects, and urban land use. The reviewer highlights that only Linz and parts of Vienna are industrial cities among major Austrian towns, while population maps reveal stable city centers, growing suburbs, and population decline in border areas near Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia.
