Antarctic Map Folio Series

Summary

This article outlines progress in three significant Antarctic research publications and operations. First, the American Geographical Society's Antarctic Map Folio Series aims to systematically summarize current knowledge of Antarctica, comprising about 20 thematic folios; Folios 16 and 17 detail the sea-floor morphology, subglacial topography, and marine sediment distribution of the Antarctic and Subantarctic. Second, the American Geophysical Union's Antarctic Research Series provides a publishing medium for Antarctic research results, with five volumes published since mid-1971 covering oceanology, glaciology, and biology. Finally, Antarctic Development Squadron Six of the U.S. Navy completed its 17th consecutive season of logistical support during Operation Deep Freeze 72, flying nearly 5,000 hours with LC-130 transports and UH-1N helicopters, effectively supporting the U.S. Antarctic Research Program.
