Summary

This review discusses an atlas of Libya. The atlas situates Libya within the world and its Islamic, Arab, and African contexts, and traces its historical dimension through historical maps, which are more abundant for the medieval period than for the colonial era. The territory is mapped at scales mostly from 1:5,000,000 (geology, soils, vegetation, population) to 1:18,000,000 (climate), supplemented by more detailed maps of land capability, agricultural development projects, urban planning, and hydrocarbon concession areas. Clear and convenient, with a fully Arabic version, it is certainly the best introduction to modern Libya. The aerodrome map may be incomplete, especially in the south, but such discretion is not specifically Libyan.
