Summary

This paper presents a bibliographic review of recent cartographic publications issued around the world in the years 1958–1959. The aim is to systematically document newly released maps, atlases, and related cartographic works, thereby providing a concise reference for geographers and map users. The method involves collecting and annotating each item with information about its thematic content, scale, number of sheets, accompanying texts, and institutional provenance. The compilation covers a broad spectrum of cartographic production: land‑use maps of Italy, an anthropogeographic map of Umbria, a comprehensive geographical atlas of the People’s Republic of China (designed to align with middle‑school curricula), climate diagrams of Turkey, a vegetation map of Algeria, and a paleogeographic atlas of North America. It also reports on the progress of geodetic and topographic surveys in Madagascar, the publication of a new map of Antarctica by the National Geographic Society, and an economic‑cartographic atlas of El Salvador illustrating population, agriculture, and industry. Each annotation indicates publication details and often highlights the intended audience. The review demonstrates the vigorous expansion of thematic and regional cartography in the mid‑twentieth century, driven by both national mapping programmes and international scientific cooperation. By consolidating these disparate sources, the paper offers a valuable snapshot of the state of global cartographic coverage and serves as a practical tool for research, education, and planning.
