Summary
This notice describes two cartographic publications. The Scottish Geographical Magazine praises the scholarship and production quality of the Soviet World Atlas. Its published first volume covers the world and the Soviet Union; Syracuse University has issued English translations of its titles and legends. The remaining volumes, planned to cover the Soviet Union in detail and foreign countries, were delayed by war. The National Geographic Society’s ten-color map of Japan and adjacent regions is centered on Tokyo and permits measurement of distances from island bases to the city. It includes detailed insets of industrial and strategic areas and the Marshall Islands, showing transport routes, wartime dismantling, and planned construction.
