Summary

This report describes a meeting of representatives of Slavic ethnographic atlas centres in Ohrid, Yugoslavia, focusing on the dynamic and historical dimensions of ethnographic distribution maps. Bratanič argued that cultural-historical knowledge enables ethnographers to interpret developmental dynamics in mapped distributions. Bruck considered maps historical when they trace phenomena through distinct periods using field, archaeological, historical, and museum evidence. The report concludes that the discussion and maps presented by the Slovak ethnographic atlas centre supported both approaches.
