Report of the meeting of the IGU Commission on National and Regional Atlases: Leipzig, G.D.R., September 23–30, 1974

Summary

The IGU Commission on National and Regional Atlases met in Leipzig on September 24–27, 1974, with members from fourteen countries reporting on national atlases: Belgium's 87-plate atlas (1950–1972) is complete, Poland has about 40% of its 127 plates printed, and the GDR's atlas of over 100 maps is in production. Discussion centered on five points: environmental maps, regional atlases, aid to developing countries, urban maps, and cross-border cooperation. The next meeting is set for Yerevan, 1976. J. J. Klawe found the technical visits, except that to the Geographical Institute, disappointing.
