Summary

This report reviews national atlas publishing and records the commission’s plenary meeting in Moscow and Leningrad, 10–20 August 1958. The commission reaffirmed its aims of supporting atlas production, improving quality and standardizing comparable maps. It identified atlas analysis, recommendations, a bibliographic centre and consultations as urgent tasks, and proposed a secretariat at Moscow State University. Polish geographers undertook bibliographic work; Swedish geographers and cartographers undertook preparations for an atlas exhibition and a publication on reproduction. The commission requested national reports by 30 June 1959 for its report to the Stockholm congress.
