At its Madrid plenary meeting (27–30 April 1970), the Commission reviewed national and regional atlas work, including satellite-based and computer-produced mapping, urban atlases, statistical modelling, and atlas comparability. It drafted a final report and future guidelines for review at the 1972 Montreal congress. The meeting proposed a world thematic atlas as a long-term goal, guidance for urban atlases, continued Polish bibliography work under Kondracki, and quicker bibliographic updates by Rado with members’ assistance.
