Maurice E. Dumont reports on the International Geographical Union’s national and regional atlas commission meeting in Madrid, 27–30 April 1970. Members reviewed atlas projects, satellite-based and computer-produced maps, urban atlases, statistical modelling and regional atlas comparability. The meeting drafted a final report and guidelines proposing a world thematic atlas and guidance for urban atlas production. It requested continued compilation of the Polish atlas bibliography and planned faster circulation of bibliographic information on new individual map sheets through Rado, with future work to be reviewed in Montreal in 1972.
