Summary

This Map of Mineral Waters was designed taking into account in a hydrogeological point of view for scholar use, environmental purposes and land use planning; so, it is simplified for reading facility. Mainly it intends emphasise relationships between some essencial chemical and plwsical features of the waters and its geological frames. All springs classified as mineral waters under the Portuguese law are plotted as well as many others considered as mineral by only a geological concept. There are two large hydromineral provinces in Portugal: the domain of mineral waters resulting from rock dissolution (Tertiary Bassin of the Tagus and Sado rivers, Meso-Cenozoic Margins and the south part of the Hesperian Massif); and the other one (Centre Iberian Zone of the Hesperian Massif) with predominance of waters controlled by deep fluids, generated in metamorphic and/or magmatic processes.
