Plenary meeting of the Commission on National Atlases of the International Geographical Union

Summary

At its first plenary meeting in Moscow, 11–20 August 1958, the IGU Commission on National Atlases brought together participants from 16 countries to review national and regional atlas projects and discuss atlas purposes, content, cartographic methods, and preliminary studies. It endorsed K. A. Salishchev’s research plan and G. A. Ginzburg’s recommendations, then approved priorities including a comparative monograph, bibliographic centre and bibliography, project consultations, and a secretariat at Moscow University.
