Summary

The Historical Atlas of South Asia project, initiated at the University of Minnesota in September 1964 and supported by the U.S. Office of Education since June 1966, is slated for publication by mid-1971. Covering India, Pakistan, Ceylon, Afghanistan, Nepal, and parts of Burma, the atlas spans from prehistoric times to the present, extending beyond political history to include cultural, social, economic, and demographic dimensions. The work comprises approximately 275 pages, with around 150 pages of map plates featuring about 250 multi-colored maps, supplemented by text, introductory material, and indexes. Designed as a fundamental research tool for scholars in humanities and social sciences, it aims to highlight research gaps, serve as a reference for educators and students, and engage a broader audience through its scholarly scope.
