Summary

On 25 January 1985 Eduard Imhof, honorary member of the German Society for Cartography, marked his 90th birthday with an open house at his home in Erlenbach. Heinz Bosse, together with Leibbrand and Wocke, conveyed the German cartographers' congratulations and gifts; the president and secretary of the International Cartographic Association, J. C. Morrison and D. T. Pearce, and representatives of the municipality of Erlenbach also came to pay their respects. The report describes Imhof's health and manner of receiving guests and his continuing painting: he told of making slides of his sketches and pictures, studying the enlarged projections for new insights, and recommending the practice to fellow artists, and he mentioned recent work in large-format oils. He expressed pleasure at a hand-drawn chart of the Swiss cantons, inscribed with the names of current students in their home cantons, given by students of the ETH Zurich's Department VIII as a tribute to his 46 years of teaching. The author also notes the anniversary exhibition at the Kunsthaus Steffisburg (2 February to 3 March 1985, later extended to 27 March) with over 160 drawings, paintings, lithographs and reliefs, the accompanying commemorative publication and poster, and the Swiss Society for Cartography's gathering with Imhof on 15 February.
