Commission on National Atlases

Summary

At its 8–12 August 1990 Beijing meeting, the National Atlas Commission brought together about 40 participants from nine countries. Six sessions covered national reports, thematic and regional atlas compilation, electronic atlases, production systems, atlas information systems, and environmental applications; participants also examined more than 65 Chinese atlases and visited two Chinese Academy of Sciences institutes. About 45 papers were prepared. Members agreed to publish ICA-sponsored proceedings and planned further work on a six-chapter final report, with a 1991 meeting scheduled for Leipzig or, alternatively, Madrid.
