Summary
R. F. Kaindl reviews the first two installments of E. von Romer’s 1916 geographical-statistical atlas of Poland, containing 32 maps covering physical geography, population, the economy, and education. He questions its use of Poland’s former territorial extent as a statistical framework and criticizes the reliability of ethnic data and boundaries in Prussia. He attributes some increases in Galicia’s Polish population to Jews adopting Polish identification and emphasizes the high illiteracy rates shown.
