Awarding of the State Dimitrov Prize to the authors of the "Atlas of the People's Republic of Bulgaria"

Summary

The notice reports the award of Bulgaria’s State Dimitrov Prize for the Atlas of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria (1973). It traces the atlas’s foundations to the two-volume Geography of Bulgaria (1966, 1969) and records five years of work by Bulgarian geographers. The notice describes the atlas as highly regarded in Bulgaria and internationally. A decree of 2 September 1974 awarded the prize to chief editor Zh. S. Galybov and six other leading geographers and cartographers. Todor Zhivkov presented the awards on 26 October, emphasizing the coincidence of that year’s prize presentation with the thirtieth anniversary of Bulgaria’s socialist revolution. The Soviet national committees of geographers and cartographers congratulate their Bulgarian colleagues on completing the atlas and receiving official recognition.
