Summary

This report covers the meeting of the Commission on National Atlases of the International Geographical Union, held in Moscow from August 11 to 20, 1958. The author represented Hungary on behalf of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The sessions reviewed national atlas projects in various countries and adopted a resolution aimed at standardizing atlas content to facilitate comparative research and lay the groundwork for a future international atlas. The Commission also decided to establish a permanent secretariat and to organize an exhibition of national atlases for the Stockholm International Geographical Congress. The author presented Hungary's preliminary atlas plan and established fruitful contacts with delegates from other countries, particularly Soviet geographers, leading to detailed coverage of Hungarian geographical and cartographic literature in a Soviet abstract journal.
