Summary

Meeting in Budapest on 7–11 September 1962, the IGU Commission on National Atlases heard 19 reports on national and regional atlases and six related studies, reviewed atlas projects and comparative work, and accompanied these discussions with an international atlas exhibition. It refined its programme before the 1964 London congress, proposing standardized atlas content, legends, symbols and colours; better use of statistics and explanatory texts; wider international exchange; support for regional atlases; periodic updating; and a minimum map list for less-developed countries.
