Short Notices: Atlas de Madagascar

Summary

This review evaluates the Atlas de Madagascar, a comprehensive geographical atlas compiled by the Association des Géographes de Madagascar under the direction of R. Battistini and P. Le Bourdiec (1969–71). The atlas is organized into seven sections covering physical, human, and rural geography, resources and industrial activities, communication, infrastructure, and regional synthesis. While the examined copy contains 62 plates and 106 pages of commentary, the author notes that seven plates, including one on secondary and higher public education, are missing. Despite an overall positive assessment of the meticulous work, certain sections are considered overly optimistic. The review concludes with a hope that a complete second edition will be published soon.
