Summary

This is a review of the National Atlas of Hungary, edited by Prof. Sándor Radó and published in 1967 by Cartographia, Budapest. Produced under the aegis of the IGU Commission on National Atlases, the atlas applies the latest geographical survey methods and refined cartographic techniques to a comprehensive range of themes including physical geography, geology, climate, hydrology, population, settlement, economy, and transport. The reviewer highlights its vivid representation of SW–NE structural lineaments, large-scale geomorphological maps, detailed climatic and hydrological analyses, and population maps reflecting the Tanya settlement pattern of the Alföld. At the same time, it criticizes methodological flaws in the language maps, incomplete information in settlement map excerpts, the lack of historical perspectives, and proposes a mechanism for continuous updating.
