Hungarian National Atlas

Summary

This article reviews the publication and scientific value of the National Atlas of the Hungarian People's Republic. The atlas contains 273 maps and cartograms organized into seven sections: natural conditions, population, agriculture, industry, transportation and communication, trade, and culture with social aspects. The authors emphasize that the atlas demonstrates innovative cartographic approaches, including the rational use of multiple scales and the synthesis of industrial indicators to characterize socialist industry. New themes such as surface-water pollution and geomorphological mapping are introduced. The agriculture and industry sections provide rich and practically oriented information, facilitating comparison and assessment. The article concludes that the atlas reflects a high level of Hungarian cartography and geography, serving both economic planning and scientific research, and offers valuable experience for international cartographic collaboration.
