Books in Review: National Atlas of India

Summary

This review section contains two notices. The first evaluates the National Atlas of India (Preliminary Hindi Edition, 1957), edited by S. P. Chatterjee and prepared with the Survey of India. Consisting of 26 sheets, it provides an up-to-date cartographic representation of India's physical environment and socioeconomic structure at multiple scales, notably a detailed administrative map of minor civil divisions after the 1956 reorganization, with Hindi-English naming. The second notice summarizes Proceedings of Conferences on Land Surveying, edited by Ken S. Curtis, a Purdue University engineering bulletin collecting papers from the 1953–1957 annual land-surveying conferences. Both publications are useful references for cartography, geography, and land surveying.
