Summary

After World War I, the newly created Czechoslovakia urgently needed a national atlas. Compiled by universities and state institutions, the Atlas contained over 400 maps on 54 sheets, covering physical geography, climate, population, agriculture, industry, commerce, transport, and culture. The editors overcame major difficulties caused by the divergent administrative and statistical systems of the former Austro-Hungarian territories. Sponsored by the Czech Academy of Sciences and published by Orbis, it was issued in fascicles from October 1931 and completed by the end of 1932, priced at about 600 francs. Notably, its graphic statistical methods served to reveal true geographic characteristics, with substantial ideas contributed by Professor Laska.
