Summary

This review discusses the preliminary Hindi edition of the National Atlas of India, produced under the Second Five-Year Plan and edited by S. P. Chatterjee. Completed within a year with support from the Survey of India, the atlas comprises 26 large-format sheets entirely in Hindi, with English translations of keys and text. It adopts the metric system and covers physical, climatic, geological, economic, transport, educational, and archaeological themes, incorporating many original cartographic techniques. The reviewer commends it as a comprehensive national inventory essential for planning, and notes that it also demonstrates advanced methods of data representation. A larger edition is already underway, extending into the Third Five-Year Plan.
