Summary

This review surveys the cartographic exhibitions at the XIX International Geographical Congress in Stockholm in 1960. Displays from 26 countries documented completed, revised, serially issued, and planned national atlases, while more than 400 thematic maps from 22 countries illustrated advances in topographic, physical, land-use, and integrated mapping. The authors also describe modern Swedish mapping and argue that converging map legends made international standards and international thematic maps feasible, alongside an expanded remit for the National Atlases Commission.
