Summary

This text from one of the two scientifc directors of the New Caledonia Atlas, published by the IRD (Institut de recherche pour le développement) and the Congress of New Caledonia from 2012 to 2014, presents organisational, epistemological and methodological principles that essentially guided the development of this exceptional project in the publishing landscape. The text also addresses the problems that have arisen during the four years of work to facilitate project owners, contractors and authors of future equivalent projets.
