Through the Pages of the Geographic Atlas of Yugoslavia

Summary

This article reviews the structure, layout, and content of the Geographic Atlas of Yugoslavia, published in Zagreb in 1962. The atlas combines features of both scientific-reference and thematic atlases, containing a geographical overview, a political-economic survey, 37 general geographic maps at 1:500,000 scale, and 64 thematic maps. The author analyzes in detail its distinctive map arrangement, cartographic methods used for thematic maps (such as dot and choropleth techniques), and inconsistencies in statistical data years, concluding that the atlas reflects Yugoslav cartographers' efforts to create innovative cartographic works for a mass audience.
